Elaine Muray integrates movment and narration to deliver
tales from around the world suitable for children 5-100. Elaine
has studied with the masters of physical theater including
Tony Montanaro. Since 2003, Elaine has been under the personal
direction of Paata Tsikurishvili, artistic director of
Washington D.C's Synetic Theater, winner of multiple awards
for direction and choreography.
In addition to solo performances for schools, libraries and
special events, Elaine provides Artist-in-Residency programs
on "Enhancing Story and Creating Characters Through Movement
and Gesture" for grades 1-12 in the Language and Dramatic
Arts and Physical Education classes, and "Youth and Teens
in Storytelling" for grades 4-12.
Elaine moved to Ventura in 2006. Prior to that she
lived in the Washington, DC metro area. She has performed
nationwide and internationally. Elaine's career highlights
include performing at the Australian Storytelling Festival
as well as atThe National Theatre in Washington, DC. For
more information, visit her website. |
Ginger Hendrix started writing songs
for the kids at Teacher Mary School, for her weekly
parent participation class. She didn't
want to sing
Barney, so so she made up songs herself. The kids liked
them. Very good news. Two
years and many songs later, she's offering MACARONI
BOY EATS AT CHEZ
SHOOBY DOO as the antidote to mindless kid music. The way
she sees it, kids' lives are kooky enough, we don't have
to make this stuff up.
She has been a writer as long as she can remember--poetry,
mostly. Songwriting is
a fairly new venture, and one that she can't stop doing
now. She lives in Morro Bay, California with her husband
Pete and two sons--Will and
Theo, who give some real bang-up back up vocals on "How
the Days Go By" and "Funny Word
Dictionary." |

Bud Mercer, author/entertainer will be accompanied by son, Buddy Mercer for banjos, songs, jokes and fun. Bud has spent most of his life in show business in one form or another. He worked with his brother Jim as The Mercer Brothers for more than 71 years. His career took him from vaudeville houses on the Orpheum, Paramount, and RKO circuits to playing the ultimate theater for vaudevillians - The Palace Theater in New York. The motion picture industry lured Bud and his brother to Hollywood where they worked for several years. When World War II broke out, Bud enlisted in the Civilian Pilot Training Program. Following the war, USO tours and then live television were next on Bud and Jim’s agenda. They performed in dinner theaters around the country with the shows Baggy Pants, Giggles Galore, and Sugar Daddies. They tried retiring, but in 1992 the Mercer Brothers revived their act for the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies and continued until Jim’s death in 2003. A talented dancer, singer, musician, and comedian, Bud still performs today – when he isn’t busy writing his memoirs and poetry.

The Singing Hands Children’s Choir began in July of 2004 with 16 children attending the first Sign Language Day Camp. In two weeks the children had learned 20 songs in American Sign Language and performed a Musical Celebration to a packed auditorium of family and friends. The show included voice, drama, dance, and everything was signed as well. This was the beginning of the Choir. Since that time the choir has grown to over 40 members with the youngest being 3 years old. The goal of the choir is to spread a better understanding of the language of sign as well as the culture of the deaf while building self-esteem, leadership, and providing a second language to the children.
The choir has performed over 20 times throughout the Central Coast. Some performances have been the Camp Roberts Tribute Show, First Place in the Americana Parade, and for the Santa Maria Mayor and City counsel. In August of 2005 we performed the National Anthem for the San Francisco Giants. This year we are scheduled to perform at the National Association of Church Musicians. We have performed for several other churches as well as civic groups. |
